5X5 Motorcycle Helmets Fail Federal Head Protection Requirements

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 5X5 brand, SA-08 model, motorcycle helmet does not meet the head protection requirements of the federal safety standard for helmets, and any motorcyclist using this helmet should stop immediately.

The company that manufactured these helmets, Tanks Sports, Inc. of California, declared bankruptcy before completing a recall request by the NHTSA.

Currently, the NHTSA believes that these helmets are not for sale in the U.S.; however, they believe that there may be motorcyclists who are continuing to use these helmets.

Helmets are highly effective in reducing fatalities and injuries. Helmet-use has saved the lives of more than 1,500 riders in 2010.
